AFTER US CONFRONTATION, IRAN HOLDS LARGE-SCALE MILITARY DRILL

Iran’s army is holding large-scale sea, land and air military drills, which comes shortly after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the United States Navyconfronted at sea of Oman over a seized oil tanker, reported Al Jazeera. It was launched on Sunday and is expected to incorporate soldiers, tanks, army vehicles, vessels, manned and unmanned aircrafts, missiles and radar systems. The exercises for the drill will be held in one million square kilometers east of the Strait of Hormuz in the northern parts of the Indian ocean, said Abdolrahman Mousavi who is the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Army. The drill will also be held on land in the south western provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan.

Iran’s state television aired footage of speedboats in the sea, soldiers boarding helicopters and commandos parachuting, as visuals of the drill. Mousavi confirmed that the forces, with the missiles and radar systems, work on stimulating defending beach lines. Iran’s army along with IRGC held many drills in different parts of the country as threats increased from the US, Israel and tensions with their northwestern neighbor Azerbaijan. Tensions increased as the US was accused of attempting to steal a Vietnamese flagged tanker. The officials praised the military capabilities in the confrontation, and accused the US of trying to prevent sales of Iranian oil. “But the Americans were caught unawares because … IRGC Navy forces used heliborne operations to deploy troops on the tanker that wanted to steal Iranian oil and redirected the ship to Iranian waters from a long distance,” said Yadollah Javani, political deputy of IRGC.

SATIRE DRIVEN, NON-MELODRAMATIC, FOCUSED, AND METICULOUSLY SCRIPTED; THIS MOVIE IS A WINNER THROUGH AND THROUGH!

How can one dislike a film that entertains throughout? In english, this movie title means ‘The engagement is on monday’.  There is no surprise in the plot line; all of it is revealed in the title.  The story is about the making of an engagement and the joys and troubles involved.  Senna Hegde pulls off a regular story with exceptional craft. The highlight of the film is its climax.  The climax offers no pomp and show, no tearful departures, no melodramatic breakdowns, no revolutions, no rebellions, no glamour, not even the promised engagement. This film is a must watch not because it is extraordinary, but because it is very ordinary, and the brilliance is entirely in the balance the filmmaker maintained throughout.

KURUP, THE MOVIE; DULQUER’S ATTEMPT TO CONQUER CINEMASCOPE FILMMAKING LEAVES AUDIENCES EMOTIONLESS

THIS PERIOD MOVIE COMES WITH COMPLETE GRANDEUR; GRAND SETS, STYLE, A GOOD CAST, LEAVES NO STONE UNTURNED IN PRODUCTION, BUT FAILS IN ITS EDITING AND COMPOSITION. DQ DOES NOT BECOME KURUP, KURUP BECOMES DQ.

Dulquer remains Dulquer, we recognize him and his methods in all his movies and he repeats himself once again.  The actor lacks gravitas in his dialogue delivery and intonation.  Can style and glamour make up for lack of method acting in a role like this?  Did we expect more?
